If you had asked me that question three months ago, not only could I say “YES, of course!”  I could also give you dates, times, training dates, ideas for your classroom decorations and snacks suggestions.  I could have told you our plans for the worship rally, and possibly even shown you the motions to one or two VBS songs.

As COVID-19 began to unfold, this question about VBS quickly became the hot topic of Kids Ministers and church staff everywhere!  Who knew that in just a matter of days, our meticulously planned, color-coded calendars full of events and deadlines would be completely erased?

God knew.  Nothing surprises Him.  Not a pandemic.  Not a clean calendar.  Not an empty church.

As the ”new normal” began to emerge, I began to ask this question, too: how in the world could we have Vacation Bible School in the midst of so many unknowns?  The verse that came to mind is from Isaiah 55:8-9, which says, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.  For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

As I began to do a little digging, I found that VBS was ”born” during a crisis — a crisis not so different that the one we face today.  Churches needed to spread the gospel and individuals longed for meaningful community (sound familiar?).  There was no big attraction for that first VBS, only the teaching of Bible stories and great kindness to those who attended.

Yes, we are in a crisis right now, but God has still given us everything we need.  We have His Word.  We have a desire to tell others about it.  COVID-19 has taken away many things, but it can never take away our hope in Christ.  When our people wrap around a common goal of helping kids learn to love the Bible, develop friendships with other Christians, and learn from godly men and women, we have hope.  With God’s help, we can offer hope of a transformed life in Christ Jesus — a hope that will last for all eternity!  When you put that into perspective, it’s definitely worth thinking bigger, being more creative, and making  those “out-of-the-box“ kind of plans to ensure that VBS will happen.

Friends, we’re saying Y-E-S to VBS at Pine Terrace this summer!
We’d love for you to say ”YES” to VBS, too.

VBS will not take place inside the walls of the church building this summer.  VBS will be in your home!  Technology has opened up so many opportunities that we might not have ever considered.  The biggest opportunity is that parents can not only see and hear first-hand what their kids are learning, they are able to participate in ways that seemed impossible just a few months ago.  How awesome it is that God has prepared the way for parents to lead their kids in this way?!

There is a lot of flexibility with this VBS model.  A Worship Rally will premier live Monday - Thursday mornings the week of July 20th - 23rd At 9:00 AM.  The beauty of this is that the rally will be recorded so that families can choose what time of day works best for them.  The schedule is in your hands.  Time will not be an issue.  Weather will not be an issue.  We will provide you with curriculum, student guides and a few other items for the week.  We will even supply you with a list of items to have on hand two weeks ahead of time for the craft and game suggestions.  Most items are things you likely have around your house already.

As we monitor the stay-at-home order during the coming weeks, we may also be able to add Backyard Bible Clubs with groups of 20 or less, and Neighborhood VBS options for groups of 50 or less.  Keep in mind that if you are interested in either of these options should they become available, there will be training and extra volunteers needed.  You do not have to have children to be a volunteer!  You will find a link at the end of this post to let us know if you are interested in serving in this way so that we can keep you informed.

Prayer. Is. Powerful. (James 5:16)

Would you commit to pray for God to prepare the way for VBS 2020?
1. Pray that God would make this a powerful week of ministry.
2. Pray for open hearts and minds.
3. Thank God for the families that will participate in this event.
4. Pray for wisdom among our staff and leadership team.

Our staff and VBS Leadership Team will do our best to equip you with all of the tools you will need to be successful in sharing the Good News no matter which model you choose.  We do ask for your patience.  This is new to all of us.  Our primary goal is not perfection, it is to bring glory to God and proclaim His truth to our kids, to provide opportunities to help them build strong spiritual foundations, and to partner with our parents, the spiritual leaders of the home.

The one thing we know for sure is that it will definitely be worth it!  Sharing God’s Word with others is always worth it (Isaiah 55:11).  And let’s just be honest, we all need something to look forward to.

So how will you answer?  Will you and your family help us track down the One true God on Mystery Island this summer?

If your answer is ”YES,” you can register your family online here:
